“I have made numerous trips with MEDICO to Honduras over the last 10 years. I was originally drawn to MEDICO and this type of trip by a desire for adventure and a strong desire to give something back to society. The idea of getting away from my office routine and some of "other" issues like dealing with insurance companies, personnel issues, collections etc. and simply providing care to people in desperate need sounded very simplistic and attractive.
What I found after taking these trips is that I have widened my circle of friends. I now have friends all over the United States that I have worked with on these trips. I also feel like I have friends down in Honduras who have assisted us to accomplish our work and the feeling of helping people with no access to any dental care is unbelievable.
What I have gained by taking these trips is immeasureable. My values and appreciation for things at home is enhanced. My understanding of how a lot of people in third world countries live is increased. I have seldom met people as dedicated to helping people as the people I have met on these trips. The leadership of MEDICO is pure in their desire to help people in need. What an adventure, and what a win for me to have had an opportunity to expand my world in so many ways.”

A Chance of a Lifetime - One Nurse’s Perspective
As a nurse, my skills of assessment, organization, triage, team building, and time management are fine tuned each time I travel with MEDICO. By working with MEDICO to triage patients, I am able to broaden my skills of assessment. Working in the medical clinic, I have learned a lot more about the diseases and illnesses that are common in Honduras. The pharmacy is an amazing area to learn more about medications, as well as practice Spanish, while instructing patients on how to take their medications. Each trip is a different experience, regardless of the area that you work in!
Serving the people of Honduras has brought me closer to humanity than I ever could have imagined. Joining the Hondurans in their villages for a week feels like coming home. Everyone welcomes you with open arms. What I am able to give is returned a thousandfold by the warmth and gratitude of each and every person I encounter. I definitely come home with my cup overflowing!
MEDICO has provided me with a chance of a lifetime. Each trip is different, but all are exciting and rewarding. I always come home feeling changed by the experience and honored to be part of such an amazing team!
